Is Your SHOWER FAILING? —WARNING SIGNS That Could Save You THOUSANDS!
I was recently asked how one could tell if there shower was failing, and if there were any ways to tell if there was water damage happening. Leaking and water migration from botched tile jobs could cause thousands in damage. In all the showers that I have torn apart, there were telltale signs that led me to believe that the waterproofing and basic construction of the shower assembly were done wrong.
Some of the signs are: cracked grout, excessive lippage or unevenness of tiles, excessive grout haze residue left on the tile, cracked tiles, and poor slope on the floor, sills, and curb leading to puddling or pooling of water in these areas.
We do not have x-ray vision, so it is hard to see what is behind the tile and if it is leaking. But using a little common sense and recognizing these warning signs can save you thousands of dollars in potential damages to adjacent areas. These damages could include mold remediation, structural damage, and more. Bad tile jobs pose a threat to the health of our industry as well.
