Hiking up the Northern Patagonia “Jakob Refugio” trail in Bariloche, Argentina, is an experience I will never forget. It’s not every day you get to experience such pristine nature. I was attracted to the trail by the alpine lake at its terminus, but I fell in love with it for so much more. I experienced moments of pure bliss on the trail, as I followed the emerald waters of the “Arrojo Casa de Piedra” river up the valley. Its constant melody and cool waters soothed my soul, while the towering mountains and glistening snow caps guided my way. After hours on the trail, the heat, changing elevations, and rocky terrain tested my resolve, but the ever-changing landscape called me deeper. Just when I had nothing more to give, the mountains gave way, and there it was: my prize, the glistening alpine lake of Refugio Jakob.
