Camino de Santiago “The Portuguese Way” section 14: Conimbriga to Coimbra, Portugal.

My final day on the Camino de Santiago “The Portuguese Way” has arrived. It’s bitter sweet. As I arrived on the outskirts of Coimbra, I turned a corner and had an overwhelming sense of déjà vu. It felt like I had been there before. Then I realized I had. Months ago, I had been in that exact spot searching for a local market when I walked the Camino from Coimbra to Porto. The moment was surreal but also oddly comforting, like I had arrived home.

Hiking through so many new landscapes every day for two weeks and then unexpectedly arriving at a place I recognized made me so happy. A few blocks later, that joy turned to melancholy as I arrived at the Monastery I previously began my hike to Porto. It was at that moment I knew my journey on the Camino had come to an end. As much as I wanted to stay, I knew I had to go. I left knowing that soon I will return to Portugal to complete another leg of the Camino de Santiago. It wasn’t a goodbye, but just a see-you-later.
