Venom Tribute

Here’s my tribute for Eddie Brock aka Venom. I actually have way more to say about him than I did for Green Goblin or any other villain I have made a tribute for so far, so if you don’t want to read a whole lot of nonsensical rambling and ranting, you can just watch the video and ignore all this stuff.

So here’s a fun fact: Venom actually used to be my second favorite Spider-Man villain after Green Goblin. I just find the overall concept of a villain who had his life ruined by both Spider-Man and Peter Parker and has now devoted the rest of his life to getting his revenge to be really interesting. I was also introduced to the character in Spider-Man TAS and Spectacular Spider-Man and I loved him in those shows. But I eventually found out that Brock is often not written very well, especially in the comics themselves. First off, in the original stories in the comics with the guy, Eddie had such a stupid reason for hating Spider-Man, it was seriously just because Spider-Man had caught a mass-murdering terrorist called the Sin-Eater which got Brock fired from his job. Like Eddie didn’t even know Peter personally at all and yet he blamed him for everything wrong with his life and swore to kill him. Man was it stupid. This part doesn’t bother me that much though as none of the media versions of Venom really have this problem, thankfully. My main issue with the guy is that Venom became so fricking popular in the 90s that Marvel eventually decided to put the guy in EVERYTHING back then and to give them an excuse to do so, they turned him into an anti-hero who protects the innocent. Huh?!?! I thought Eddie was supposed to be a revenge-obsessed psychopath not some Punisher rip-off. And the idea of a so-called “villain” who cares about random innocent people is just so idiotic to begin with. So until Marvel grows a brain and stops constantly making Venom some kind of anti-hero character like they recently did in the movie, I just don’t care about him. And if you’re wondering where the version of him from his 2018 solo movie is in this video, I decided not to include that one for many different reasons. Other than the fact that I don’t like that movie at all, that version of Venom wasn’t villainous in any way whatsoever and he doesn’t fit the song at all either. Although admittedly the main reason is because that version of him has too much screen-time so excluding him from this video saved me a ton of work. Oh yeah and one last thing, I actually like the Spider-Man 3 version of Venom. In fact, I find almost all of the various complaints people have about him to be kinda stupid like whining about his design or the fact that he wasn’t that big or saying that Venom was completely unnecessary in that film and he was only in there because Avi Arad forced Sam Rami to put him in there. That last one I especially don’t get because I actually heard Rami always intended the movie to have three villains in it even before he was “forced” to use Venom. The reason why I say that is because of the final battle format of the movie where it has two heroes going up against two villains (because who the hell wants to see two heroes gang up on one villain?). So even if the second villain wasn’t Venom it just would have been someone else like Vulture for example who I heard would have actually been in the film if it wasn’t for Venom and Venom fits the themes of that movie way better than any of the other Spider-Man villains in my opinion. So yeah, you can sue me if you want but I think Spider-Man 3 used Venom pretty well, better than his own solo movie did anyway.

According to my schedule the next tribute I’m supposed to do is Doctor Octopus. Unfortunately, these days I’m even more busy than I usually am and I think I have to cut back on my upload frequency especially given how difficult these last few videos have been to make and by my calculations Doc Ock’s video will be even harder. So I think my videos will most likely have to come out a lot less frequently now. Sorry guys.
