How Analysing Films Can Increase Your Cultural Literacy

I want to increase my cultural literacy (can mean a whole lot of things for diff people) so, I started with films.

Not by watching more but by watching better.

Film analysis isn't about sounding intellectual.

It's about noticing how stories move through time...
how a Korean thriller borrows tension-building from Hitchcock,
how Wong Kar-wai reshaped the language of longing.

When you learn to "read" a film, you unlock new ways of seeing people, societies, and history. And that's beautiful. 🥲

You suddenly have richer conversations.
You connect across cultures.
You see the world with more depth.

IMO, film is the easiest entry point into becoming a more observant, culturally aware, creatively person.
🕊️It felt a bit heavy to upload this today. I've been watching the news and praying for people in SEA and Hong Kong who are going through devastating tragedies.
