Natalie Cole & Afghan Elvis, LIVE in Kabul
Nine-time Grammy winner Natalie Cole performs live at the Ariana Cinema in downtown Kabul, after a rousing welcome by an Afghan Elvis singing Frank Sinatra's My Way.
Cole said she had been touched by the spirit of Afghanistan and indeed, it seemed, her performance was. She started singing into a broken microphone and no one could hear her.
Police with Kalashnikovs frisked guests where the red carpet should have been, at the premiere of Black Tulip, Afghanistan's optimistic entry for a 2011 Oscar. The film's unblinking strap line: Freedom is Never Free.
Cole co-wrote and performed two original songs on soundtrack. The credits roll to lines like "Fight for your freedom, Afghanistan".
