How to Install Outside Mount Roller Shades with Exposed Roll

Most people think installing their own blinds is hard. Following the simple, step-by-step instructions in this video makes hanging your custom roller shades easy to do yourself! Today we’ll show you how to put up an exposed roller shade. Just screw in your brackets, snap the shade into place, and you’re done!
Here’s how you do it:

1. Start by subtracting the width of your window from the width of your roller shade. This will determine how much wider your shade is than your window. (In our case: 38” - 35” = 3”).

2.Whatever your result from step 1, divide the difference by 2. (in our case: 3”/2 = 1.5”).

3. Aligned with the top of your window, measure and mark 1.5” away from the left of the window, and do the same on the right of the window. If you had a different result from step 2, measure that distance instead.

4. From these first two marks, measure up at least ¾” and make another mark. We decided to go 1” above our first marks, but you can go to any height, as long as your shade is tall enough to reach the bottom of your window.

5. Position a bracket over one of your second marks, and then mark your screw locations through the holes in the bracket. Repeat this for the opposite side.

6. Predrill the screw holes with a 5/64” drill bit. Then, you may attach the brackets with the provided screws.

7. With the shade in your hands, start by entering the pin end into the bracket with the circular holes. Once the pin is set and compressed, slide the tab on the other end into the hook of the opposite bracket.

8. You’re done! Test the operation of the shade by using two hands, and gently raising and lowering the shade.

9. If you need to remove the shade, lift the shade into the uppermost position, lift the tab-end off the hooked-bracket, and then pull the pin out of the opposite bracket.
