Rainfall triggers floods in Indonesia’s Aceh province as La Nina returns

Four days of intense rainfall have brought floods to Indonesia’s Aceh province, according to the country’s disaster mitigation agency. Local administrations have declared a 14-day emergency and temporary shelters have been set up for the displaced. Fatal landslides and flash floods are common across Southeast Asia during the rainy season from October to April. But the Indonesian Agency for Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics forecasts that the return of the La Nina weather phenomenon will lead to even heavier rains for the next few months.
