RIP Don Murray (July 31, 1929 - Feb 1, 2024) Oscar-nominated actor dies at 94. Exclusive Interview!

Celebrate Don Murray’s life and career with this interview and retrospective of some of his most memorable performances. Don sets the record straight as he shares behind-the-scenes stories of Hollywood legends Marilyn Monroe, Steve McQueen, Alan Ladd, and others during an interview with Rob Word, recorded at The Autry, July 16, 2019.

Working with superstar Marilyn Monroe in his first movie, "Bus Stop" (1956), New York method actor Don Murray was surprisingly cast as a naive rodeo cowboy and received an Academy Award nomination for Best Actor. He shares a funny story of a request director Josh Logan asked of him. “Please just grab hold of Marilyn and help her stay on her mark!”

Don starred in several more westerns including the rarely seen favorite, "From Hell to Texas" (1958). It’s the infamous film that was the cause of Dennis Hopper being blackballed by director Henry Hathaway. Once again, a director asked Don to lend a helping hand with a co-star.

"The Outcasts" is Murray's hour long TV western about two unlikely bounty hunters. That rare series paired a Confederate Civil War veteran and a former slave, Otis Young, as partners. Don's wide-ranging discussion of Hollywood also includes memories of sparring with Steve McQueen, kicking the butt of McQueen’s stuntman, working with director Otto Preminger in the all-star "Advise and Consent," making a Spaghetti western with Broderick Crawford and sampling Alan Ladd's glass of "water" during the filming of "One Foot in Hell."

Lots of fun stories and great movie memories in this exclusive conversation with Oscar nominated actor, Don Murray. He always delivered exceptional performances and was a joy to interview for us and his fans on A WORD ON WESTERNS.

Thanks for the memories, Don. Condolences to his family, friends, and fans. Rest in Peace.
