Know which food is best for rainy season along with a recipe to imporve the digestve fire, this is the first from a series of three episodes for health care durng the monsoon.

The rains have come
What is all happening in India and in the whole world. The recent pandemic has still not loosened its grip around the globe and the showers from above have begun in India.

Though Bollywood abounds in romantic dance songs in the rain like, ‘barsaat mein hum ko mile tum sajan’, this rainy season is a very tricky and dangerous one. For good health and physique it is a very dodgy weather and there is easily an imbalance in health.

For the elderly ones, stepping outside on the slippery, pot-holey road itself posts a risk of falling down. Plus it is a very easy weather to get wet and immediately catch a cold, with headache and fever. These are common ailments in rainy season. Thus it is essential to take utmost care. Now one thing we need to realise that if we understand what happens in rains, then we can take the necessary precautions too.

Our planet is made up of the earth element and the entire five elemental universe around us. The earth and water are two sides of one coin, they are together. Then there is the air and space element, in between is the fire, now what happens.

So in rainy season, that comes after the intense heat of the summer, so when water falls on the pre-heated earth of summer, then steam comes out and this reaction makes the water element sour and acidic, this causes increase in the Pitta dosha. After little rain, the wind starts blowing, the weather becomes cooler, and the cold and the wind both excite and aggravate each other and the balance is lost.

The earth by itself is very steady and if the air comes in between there is earthquake. Also if space comes in between the entire planet earth will disintegrate, will break into thousands of pieces. If a ball is densely packed together when it tries to expand and occupy more and more surrounding space, it will end up being destroyed. The water falls on earth in rainy season from above. During summer the water from earth rises up to form clouds, or when if falls back down again, the wind doesn’t feel too good cause now the earth will become lush green and beautiful .

When the body agni is less, means there is less appetite. All the body tissues, the seven dhatus, they are transformed and made with the help of fire. So there is problem in formation of the body tissues.
Thus everything needs to be done with care, this has to be kept foremost in our mind and then we can see what all can be done.
Firstly, we need to be very careful in choosing our food and drinks.

So what is the best daily food recommended, here is rice, though it looks like normal ice, this one is easy and fast to cook. Then there is this red variety of rice, this too is good, it is called shshti-shaali, harvested in 60 days. This is jowar and this is wheat. This is the main food and this can be partaken in rainy season. The quality is in descending order, the first one is hundred percent suitable for rainy season and then the red rice 90 percent, the jowar 80 percent and wheat 70. Now come the lentils, the first being moong dal, this is good for digestion, as it is easily digested. Second in the row is toor dal and lastly this is kulith.
So this food is to be taken in this season.
One more point for the elderly and the children, they can have this special diet either once a week or every evening or for a few days when the Vata dosha increases. There is pain as due to increased Vata, the digestion is not at its best, and nothing seems to be right with the tummy, then what to do?
Take this rice, crush the grains just a little and take water 14 times the quantity of rice. Now bring to a boil, heat on low flame till the rice is totally cooked and a bit smashed. Now we need to give a tadka(tempering). Before giving the tadka, sieve the mixture and add a dash of salt. Ayurvedic ghee is used for the tadka, along with cumin seeds, and kokum or aam sul, this is not aamchoor made from mango. This kokum sourness is best, there is nothing so good as kokam in the kitchen. Now give the tadka by adding cumin seeds. Add a little grated ginger. In this manner give the tadka and partake this rice, and see the difference for yourself. In two to four days the health will improve very much. You are eating just this yet it is nourishing all the seven dhatus and in this rainy weather if the digestion is good you shall be at ease and peace. In the rainy season all the grains are best cooked and eaten only after they have been nicely roasted. Next item we shall see the vegetables good for rainy season, other points are also there, we shall discuss later.
