Tahoe Trail Guide Update (3/23/24): Lvl 3 XC Ski Certified, 101 Tahoe Big Year Birds, 90 XC Ski Days

Yikes. I look totally baked in this video! Haha :) Prior to this recent Tahoe snowstorm, we've been experiencing full spring conditions. So that means that it's always sunny and bright (and that sunshine reflects off of the snow into your face!). Since I've been outside xc skiing and birding so much lately, my head now looks fully cooked ;)

I'm sure everyone has been wondering (probably not - haha!), but I officially passed my PSIA (Professional Ski Instructors of America) Level 3 Cross Country certification exam this past Thursday (March 21, 2024). Yay! I'm so glad to have that process over because the preparation for the test consumed me for most of this past winter.

I also logged my 100th and 101st birds, recently, for the 2024 Tahoe Big Year (http://tahoebigyear.org/start.cfm ). That means that I'm already halfway to my goal of 200+ birds for the year. I'm very excited about that because I've already been able to log a number of birds that took me a long time to find back in the 2021 Tahoe Big Year, or I didn't find them at all. And you need every possible bird to reach that 200+ tally.

Today also marks day 90 of cross-country skiing for me for the 2023-24 winter at Lake Tahoe. That's pretty cool since I get to celebrate that with all of this new snow :) And all of the newer snow just guarantees that there'll be enough of it around for me to easily log at least 10 more days of xc skiing before the season is completely over. I suspect I'll ski more than 10 times, though ;)

Anyway, sorry for the rambling video but I'm still in recovery mode from the xc ski test day. That, and I'm also mentally preparing to be unemployed in the next few weeks (and won't start my summer job until late May).

When it comes down to it, I just have a lot of stuff on my mind right now :)

I've produced this collection of articles and videos about backcountry travel and exploration with the beginner and intermediate adventurer in mind. This is the demographic for whom I most often served while working in the Lake Tahoe outdoor recreation industry. In essence, these informational projects I create and publish are extensions of the many conversations we've had over the years.
