What Bali Locals Want You To Know! #travel #Bali

Even though my trip to Bali was short, I was lucky enough to spend time talking to locals and getting their opinions on tourism in their home.

Here are 3 things Balinese locals want YOU to know and wish most tourists were better at!

Respect the Culture: Everyone would say this is important, but a lot of people do things we think are small that make them feel disrespected. Temples are sacred spaces and some rules apply, like dress modestly when visiting, wearing a sarong when required (even if you already have your legs covered), putting hair up in certain spaces, and be mindful of your behavior, especially when taking photos. A little goes a long way in preserving their traditions.

Say Hello in Bahasa! ️ "Selamat pagi" (good morning) goes a long way! Learning a few basic phrases shows respect and opens doors to local experiences. No one expects you to be fluent or honestly even good, but they always appreciate trying, especially when it comes to nomads who stay on the island for months, if not years

Haggling is Expected (But Be Fair): Bargaining is part of the shopping experience in Bali. Be polite, start with a reasonable offer, and remember - a smile always wins!

Support Local Business: One downside of the influx of digital nomads and expats has been new foreigner run businesses that attract high spenders and take income away from the locals. Do a bit of extra research into who owns the business you frequent and be sure they are actually owned by locals whenever possible.

Let's be responsible tourists and experience Bali's true beauty – culture, people, and all!
