Water is Life - Wasser ist Leben

The importance of wetlands for the protection of water in Lake Victoria and thus the Nile Basin is shown in this film by PASCH students in Kampala.

Dalaus Katende, chairman of the Lutembe Bay Wetlands Community, and Leonard Akwany, Regional Wetland Expert of the Nile Basin Initiative, tell of the challenges of protecting the wetlands. Elizabeth Agiro, media officer of the Nile Basin Initiative, explains the importance of supporting all Nile states in their cooperation to share the Nile.

"Water is life" was created as part of the project 'UmWelten', a participative video project in collaboration with Goethe-Instituts worldwide on the topic of the environment and environmental protection.

In Kampala, Uganda, the workshop took place at the Mengo Senior School, also with students of the Lycée du Saint-Esprit, Burundi, in July 2019.

‘UmWelten’ is a collaborative participatory film project for young people that Glocal Films facilitates in collaboration with a number of different Goethe-Institutes around the world. In each country a group of young German leaners produces two films on environmental issues that are specific to that particular region. A first film focuses on environmental pollution whereas a second film documents a good practice example. Through their films, the students are able to speak to experts and explore potential reasons and risks of environmental pollution and identify the barriers to reverse the effects. The project aims to raise awareness and to motivate positive activism. All films will be available through an online film library and will serve as a teaching tool for teachers worldwide.
