How to Restring a Delmar Pleated or Cellular Shade

Things you will need for the repair:
• Cord Lock
• Lift Cord / String
• Plastic Washers
• Restring Needle
• Wire Resting Needle
• Cord Guides
• Cord Joiner
• Lighter (optional)
• Scissors
• Small Screwdriver

Instructions:
1. 0:12 - Remove your shade from the window and lay it on a flat surface. Remove the end cap from the top rail. Remove the cord lock from the top rail by pressing a small screwdriver into the hole to release the lock. Remove the end caps from the bottom rail. Slide the top rail off going away from the cord lock and slide the bottom rail off as well.

2. 0:46 - Cut any string between the cord lock and the shade. If you still have a string running through the cord lock, do not remove it. Remove the broken strings from the shade saving any washers or metal cord stops for reuse.

3. 1:06 - Cut each new replacement string to the proper length. Twice the height plus the width is a generous estimate. It's better to be too long than not long enough. Thread the string through the restring needle. Tie a plastic or metal washer to the end of each string using a double knot. Insert the needle through the route hole at the bottom of the shade. Pull the string all the way through until the washer is seated against the bottom of the shade. Repeat this step for each lift cord.

4. 1:39 - Thread the cord guides then place them on the holes on the top of the shade.

5. 2:42 - Slide the rails back on and reattach the end caps.

6. 2:54 - To rethread the cord lock with existing string:
You may attach the new lift cords to the old cord with a lighter and then pull them through the cord lock. BE CAREFUL NOT TO BURN YOURSELF. Pull them through the cord lock.

7. 3:40 - To rethread the cord lock:
Use a wire restring tool to fish the cords through the cord lock.

8. 4:11 - Reinsert the cord lock into the top rail. Rehang your shade and lower it until it is to the desired length. Trim off extra string, leaving at least six extra inches. Insert the lift cords through one side of the cord joiner. Do not cut the cord until you're sure that the shade raises and lowers evenly and completely. Now trim the lift cord at the base of the cord joiner.
