Bhopal Gas Tragedy | World's worst industrial disaster

The Bhopal gas tragedy was one of the world’s worst industrial disasters. It occurred on the night of 2–3 December 1984 in Bhopal, when a toxic gas leaked from a pesticide plant owned by Union Carbide. Around 40 tons of methyl isocyanate gas escaped into the atmosphere, spreading rapidly over nearby residential areas while people slept. Thousands died within hours due to suffocation, burning eyes, and lung failure. Over the following days and years, many more suffered from chronic respiratory problems, blindness, neurological disorders, and birth defects. The disaster exposed serious lapses in industrial safety, poor maintenance, and inadequate emergency preparedness. Legal battles and compensation efforts continued for decades, but many victims felt justice was incomplete. The Bhopal gas tragedy remains a grim reminder of the human cost of negligence and the need for strict industrial safety regulations worldwide.
