Hiking Stigmansrundan via Vitsand – Tiveden National Park, Sweden

We hiked the Stigmansrundan trail in Tiveden National Park, starting from Vitsand beach instead of the main entrance. This adds about 2 extra km to the hike, but it’s absolutely worth it: Vitsand has a sandy beach, toilets, and picnic tables — perfect for a swim or a rest before/after the trail.

From Vitsand we connected to the Stigmansrundan loop. About halfway, we reached the main entrance, where you’ll also find facilities and a good spot for a break. Along the trail we passed the dramatic rock formation Stigmanspasset, climbed up to Stenkälleklack (with views partly hidden by forest), and checked out the nearby Stenkälla cave.

Official length: ~4.2 km (loop from main entrance)

Our hike: ~6 km including Vitsand connection

Time needed: ~2–3 hours (expect double your normal hiking time — terrain is demanding)

Difficulty: Moderate to challenging — rocky, uneven, with some climbs

Highlights: Ancient forest, dramatic rock formations, wild atmosphere, lake views at Vitsand

Facilities: Toilets & picnic tables at both Vitsand and the main entrance
If you’re visiting Tiveden National Park, Stigmansrundan is a great choice for a shorter but demanding adventure — and adding Vitsand makes it even better with the chance for a swim in the lake.
