Riding the Stelvio Pass in Italy. I've driven here before by car, on a Saturday around 11:00. It was completely packed, basically a long parade of tourists going up. So, lesson learned, go early! I also recorded the first drive but just before the top a big fat fly squashed into the lens. So, time to go again :-)

This time I arrived around 09:00 and luckily it was nice and empty! The Stelvio Pass is probably one of the best-known roads after Top Gear crowned it the "greatest driving road in the world" (some time after, they titled the Transfăgărășan Highway greatest driving road). For me personally, it's fantastic to drive although I take more excitement out of driving lesser-known roads.

The Stelvio Pass goes by different names; Stelvio Pass, Passo dello Stelvio (Italian), or Stilfser Joch (German). The road number is SS38. At 2757 meters, it's the 2nd highest pass in the Alps, just behind the Col de l'Iseran (2764 meters -- https://youtu.be/A4GgpEzjcTc). At the top, there's a nice restaurant (Alpengasthof Tibet Hütte) where you can drink a coffee while looking out over the pass.

I didn't ride the pass all the way. After descending from the top to direction Bormio, I took a right turn onto the Umbrail Pass into Switzerland.
