What happens when Billie Joe Armstrong decides to sit this one out and let a banjo player take over?

Apparently, he lets us re-film the entire music video for Good Riddance (Time of Your Life) while he hangs around behind the camera directing. At least that's the story we're going with.

For this cover, I recreated scenes from Green Day's original video and green-screened myself into them, replacing the guitar with a five-string banjo. The result is somewhere between a tribute, a parody, and a bluegrass alternate universe where Billie Joe handed me the keys and said, "Don't mess it up."

Whether you remember this song from graduations, yearbooks, road trips, or late-night MTV, it's one of the defining acoustic songs of the 90s—and it turns out it sounds pretty good with a little banjo mixed in.
