In “Accessing Medical Aid in Dying in New Mexico,” Barak Wolff, MPH, Board Chair of the End of Life Options New Mexico nonprofit organization, and New Mexico State Representative Debbie Armstrong discuss the 2021 law that supports terminally ill people’s options for a peaceful death. They provide an update on how the program has been implemented over the four months since it became legal in June 2021. They also answer questions toward the end of the session.

Barak Wolff, MPH, is Board Chair of the End of Life Options New Mexico nonprofit organization. A long-time public health leader in New Mexico, he has worked to get medical aid in dying passed in this state for many years. The website is https://endoflifeoptionsnm.org/.

New Mexico State Representative Debbie Armstrong is a champion of the medical aid in dying cause and sponsored the bill in the state legislature. She has more than 35 years of experience in healthcare and public policy. She retired from the legislature at the end of 2021.

This presentation was part of the 5th annual Before I Die New Mexico Festival, held October 30 to November 2, 2021. The Before I Die Festival concept brings together entertaining and educational elements to start conversations.
