BENFISH (West Bengal State Fishermen´s Co-Operative Federation Ltd. Under the Department of Fisheries Govt. of W.B) has tremendous potential for development and promotion of tourism in the State. From the Himalayas in the North to the coastal areas of the Bay of Bengal in the South the federation planned to the up a host Eco-friendly budget tourist-lodges over the years primarily meant for catering to the needs of the middle class tourists.
Accordingly, tourist-lodges at various places of tourist interests were set up in phases within the State and outside by this organisations. Most of such spots were chosen in place free from din and bustle of urban/city life, primarily for the reason that the tourists would be able to refresh their mind by spending a few days amidst nature. So far the BENFISH have constructed Tourist Lodges at Frasergunj, Sankarpur, Digha, Diamond Hatbaur, Nayachar(Meendwip), darjeeling, Kalimpong,Kumlai(under Mal P.S. of Jalpaiguri diatrict) Baharampur, Coochbehar,Bolpur in Birbhum, Puri in Orissa.
