Ingrown toenails can be very bothersome and painful. If conservative treatment, whether a pedicure or routine nail cutting, is not helping...it might be time to look for a more permanent solution. After numbing the toe, the ingrown portion of the nails are removed and an acid (Phenol) is applied to destroy the nail cells and stop that portion of the nail from ever growing again.
