Howard Blake: 'Walking in the Air' (version from 'Lifecycle') for solo piano

Howard Blake (b.1938) has written music for film and television as well as stand-alone 'art music'. He composed a sequence of eight miniatures for piano in the 1960s and 70s which he later supplemented with music originally intended for other purposes to make up a collection he called 'Lifecycle' (1996). 'Walking in the Air' is one of these new pieces, the twenty-first in the sequence. It was originally composed as a song included in the soundtrack for the animation film 'The Snowman', first shown on television in 1982, and has become his most famous composition. Arranging it as a piece for solo piano has created some awkward moments for the player (especially in the brief transition after the main theme, which has a rather orchestral feel). It is associated with Christmas, so I'm getting my upload of this wintery, atmospheric piece in early!
