Chimney fires are very dangerous and they start when your chimney gets a build up of creosote inside in. It is very important to only burn dry seasoned firewood in your wood burning appliance in order to mitigate the build up of creosote and keep your chimney cleaner longer. However, eventually you should clean your chimney, and after you have done it a few times you will have a pretty good idea of how often it will need to be done.
