Privacy is Dead: The Future is Fabulous | Richard Aldrich | TEDxWarwick
Richard J. Aldrich is Professor of International Security in the Department of Politics and International Studies. His main research interests lie in the area of intelligence and security communities. He is the author of several books including The Hidden Hand: Britain, America and Cold War Secret Intelligence (2001) and GCHQ: The Uncensored Story of Britain’s Most Secret Intelligence Agency (2010).
Richard maintains related interests in issues of cyber security, liberty and privacy, set against a background of accelerating globalization - he has spent time in Canberra and Ottawa as a Leverhulme fellow while working on a study of the impact of globalization upon intelligence services. These wider interests extend to developments in information technology, including public key cryptography. The technology of secrecy - particularly secure communications - has exerted an important but largely neglected influence upon the conduct of international relations.
Richard also advises a number of UK government departments on issues of records management, declassification and corporate memory. He has been leading a project funded by the Arts and Humanities Research Council on CIA history and his recent media appearances include Newsnight and the Today programme.
This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at http://ted.com/tedx
