On Sunday, Economist and adviser to President Trump Stephen Moore called on House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) and Senate Minority Leader Charles Schumer (D-N.Y.) to "get a deal done" amid a stalemate on a fifth coronavirus relief package. “Come on, Nancy Pelosi. Come on, Chuck Schumer. Come together for the good of the country. Get a deal done! ... What is holding things up? I think it's pure politics.” Moore's comments come as Republican senators declared the fifth coronavirus stimulus bill dead on Thursday after Democrats rejected the roughly $500 billion GOP-drafted bill. Moore said that, despite the lack of virus relief, "the good news is that even without the stimulus plan, which has been held up now for eight weeks, the economy is on great great roll right now. Four straight [months] of 1.5 million or more jobs created."

Sunday on CNN’s “State of the Union,”, Rep. Val Demings (D-Fla.) criticized the Republican-backed coronavirus stimulus bill after Senate Democrats blocked the GOP legislation amid a stalemate between the parties. She said “we need to pass a meaningful bill and if the GOP is interested in helping American families the HEROES Act is sitting right there,” referring to the Democratic-backed coronavirus relief bill the House passed. CNN’s Jake Tapper asked Demings if it is better to compromise on a bill to give Americans some form of relief, noting that Democrats only control the House, not the Senate or White House. He said, “Isn’t something better than nothing? That's what the American people have now, nothing.” Ultimately she responded by saying that “the American people deserve more than the crumbs from the table,” adding that Democratic leadership has been negotiating for weeks. She goes on to say how “there has been movement on our side, Republicans, quite frankly, have been ridiculous in their negotiations.” She explained how “It must be nice to maybe not know the feeling of having to struggle to make ends meet.

Speaker Nancy Pelosi welcomes the House back on Monday which could help reignite stimulus negotiations. Republicans and Democrats both have been testing a risky strategy of not passing a bill that the public -- and voters -- will blame the other side for failing to deliver help to millions of households and companies. The issue is soon lawmakers are going to be returning home to start their campaign trails for the election and with many lawmakers up for tough elections campaigns many people in congress believe this will pressure lawmakers in to a deal before the election. Representative Gerald Connolly of Virginia said “there is concern within the caucus that we acted on this four months ago and the currency on that is fading,” who backs consideration of the $2.2 trillion package supported by Pelosi and Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer. He explained “We can’t just go home on our campaign trails and talk about something we passed back in May.” Wasserman said that “democrats do have opportunities to pick up seats outside of St. Louis, Indianapolis, Cincinnati and Omaha -- these metro areas that are historically Republican but which have turned against Trump,” and ultimately in order to get these positions they might need to get another stimulus bill passed to gain more support
