Let There Be Paul: A Tribute to AC/DC & Lynyrd Skynyrd

Last year in 2022, a good friend of mine Paul Loveridge hit me up to put together a jam at his 60th Birthday party (if you're unacquainted with his work as PA Lovetone, go check out his drums right now, world class true solid log builds). 10 years prior Luke and I played an AC/DC set at Paul's 50th with our high school band Smooth Intentions, and we were floored by Paul's uncanny vocal resemblance to the late great Bon Scott. So a decade went by, and with 10 years of musical and drum building experience under our belts (I actually played Paul's first true solid Jarrah prototype at the show in 2012), we thought we'd have another crack at it!

The band was originally just Luke, Tom Neal and I but at the last minute we recruited Bronte Leddin on rhythm guitar, a bagpipe band, and to top it off for studio accuracy, my dad Sheldon Gallagher on shaker. This show was coming straight out of the mandates, and was actually my first time being allowed in a venue onstage in about 8 months, so you can clearly see I'm having a rather good time 🤣. There were still some restrictions in place so many friends and family had to cancel, including the piper band but we managed to grab Dave at the last minute. There were some tech issues recording the pipes so I took the liberty of overdubbing an accompaniment bagpipes track to thicken up the sound.

As a memento of a hilariously fun night I've put this video together for Paul, and because I was so pleased with the result, I thought I'd also share this outrageous, fun, no pressure, no stakes birthday jam with you all!
