An Overview of Classification of Pneumonia

The term pneumonia is sometimes more broadly applied to any condition resulting in inflammation of the lungs.
In this video, Dr. Mobeen Syed introduces the definition, classification, and various pathogens involved in causing pneumonia.
He describes that it is significant to recognize the clinical settings in which the patient becomes sick to treat the patient effectively.
He discusses the classification of pneumonia based on clinical, histological, and anatomic or radiographic parameters.
Clinicians have classified pneumonia by clinical characteristics, dividing them into acute (less than three weeks duration), fulminant, and chronic pneumonia.
There are two broad categories of pneumonia in this scheme, which are community-acquired pneumonia and hospital-acquired pneumonia.
Pneumonia can be classified histologically into multiple types of pictures. These include pus in the alveoli, inflammation of the lung-parenchyma (atypical-pneumonia), and granulomas in the alveoli.
Pneumonia can be classified anatomically into lobar-pneumonia, bronchopneumonia, and interstitial pneumonia.
The causative agents of 90 % cases of lobar pneumonia are Streptococcus-pneumoniae.

The following topics have discussed in the video:
* Definition of pneumonia
* Clinical classification of pneumonia
* Histological classification of pneumonia
* Anatomic classification of pneumonia
