The Hawkbirds covering the Ramones track, “Chainsaw”

The song, written by Joey Ramone, was released in 1976 on their debut album, Ramones. “Chainsaw” was inspired by Tobe Hooper’s 1974 classic movie, “The Texas Chain Saw Massacre”. As part of their signature blend of dark humor and punk rock energy, “Chainsaw” exemplifies the chill and horror of the cult film. The track has one of the fastest tempos on the album, and opens with the sound of a revving chainsaw (a pick slide, in our cover).

🧸 Brown Bear likes the chaos of the song, which helps him cope with the sedentary life of an indoor bear. The terror of the lyrics (with chainsaws, uncertainty, and tension) feels like a powerful release of stifled primordial energy. The Ramones help him express things that are impossible to say when you can’t speak. The dark lyrics may be unsettling, but the spirit and fast tempo of the music allows just enough mayhem… It’s all over in less than 2 minutes, so there is only a fleeting intensity that’s over before it becomes too much. Brown Bear likes how the song just goes all in, no holding back, and gets to the point from the very beginning… As a bear who came from the forest, he fears chainsaws, but as a Ramones fan, he can't get enough! 🧸🪚 ⚡️

This song was recorded on 2/2/25 in our basement studio, on separate tracks using Behringer B 906 Dynamic Microphones…

We captured the audio on a Zoom H6 audio interface, and mixed it with GarageBand. Sennheiser HD-660S2 headphones, and an AudioEngine DAC3 amplifier, help to balance the sound in order to highlight each instrument during the mixing process. We struggle to get optimum sound as our studio is very small, and the drums are very loud. Thank you so much for all of your feedback which continues to help us produce better sound.
