Letters from Libby Prison

Frederick Bartleson was a young and successful lawyer before the Civil War broke out, but when Confederates fired on Fort Sumter, Bartleson was the first man to enlist in his county and joined the 20th Illinois Infantry Regiment. He took part in the battles of Donelson and Shiloh, the latter of which he lost an arm. After recovering, he would join the 100th Illinois Infantry Regiment as their colonel and wold fight at Stones River and Chickamauga. Confederates would capture him at Chickamauga and send him to the prisoner of war camp, Libby Prison in Richmond, Virginia. These are his letters from prison. Hear the stories of a prisoner from his diary and letters to his wife.
