Countdown (Australia)- Molly Meldrum Interviews David Bowie- March, 1983

A segment from the long running Australian music TV series Countdown, which aired on the ABC from 1974-1987.

This particular segment aired during the Countdown episode which originally aired on March, 1983, on the ABC.

This clip features an interview of British singer David Bowie, conducted by Countdown Talent Co-Ordinator Molly Meldrum, from Sydney Harbour, Sydney, Australia.

The interview begins with a discussion about what the public can expect from Bowie in the near future. Bowie refers to two movies that he has recently starred in- 'The Hunger', and 'Merry Christmas, Mr Lawrence'. Bowie also discusses his new album, 'Let's Dance', which Molly and Bowie discuss. They proceed to discuss the title single, and the filming of the video clip in Australia. The interview concludes with his rationale for the film clips of 'Let's Dance' and 'China Girl'.

Vaxfacts: It is quite easy to see in this clip- if you look closely at Bowie's eyes, you will note a difference between the two. His eyes are not a different colour, rather, his left pupil is permanently dilated, a result of a fight he had with a friend in 1962, who punched him in that eye. As a result of that injury, along with his dilated pupil, he also has impaired depth perception.
