Today we have a special guest on.

We have Josh who as been an affiliate marketer for over 11 years and went through challenging times when Panda algorithm was released. However, since that time, Josh has bounced back and increased his traffic by five times in the space of one year.
For this reason I wanted to get Josh on this call to congratulate him and also pick his mind and ask him what sort of SEO strategy changes did he apply to gain such success.

So let's get to it and ask Josh some questions:

Eric:
Was there a turning point in your site's growth?

Josh:
Going backwards a bit, I was doing a lot of things that were wrong in today's standards and had I been doing the things we are being taught by you today, I would have been fine.
Basically, I had to turn around a site that has hundreds of pages that was fined tuned to work back in the day which ultimately got hit by Panda. Finally I had to get serious about fixing the site properly as everything I tried did not work. After finding your site, you said something that resonated with me. You said that if your site has big blocks of text without any images, sub headlines and other forms of formatting issues, then I am likely to have problems.... and of course my site was just big blocks of text.
So essentially that was my turning point and the improving process to my site started where I essentially increased the quality of my site to a standard that Google likes.

Eric: Have you developed any new on-page tricks you would like to share?

Josh: Most of it is based on your recommendations such as adding headings and sub-headings and breaking up the page making it easier for the user to read. I also feel that adding captions to images is very underused and helps a lot.
Other things I do not see a lot and use is adding your keyword inside the image file names and also add block quotes.

Eric: Can you tell me more about how you build your links to your site?

Josh: What it boils down to is getting authority guest post written up with a link back to your site. Of course the trick is to find quality posts with relevance to your niche and your Link Vault service is awesome for that. It is also important that there is traffic on those blogs too.
One other aspect to link building is the anchor text. I love using your left / right technique of building links so that each and every anchor is never the same.
I also like to gain some links from Disqus commenting to vary things up a little and make it look as natural as possible. The whole idea is not to leave any form of footprints for Google to pick up on.
