Haydn - Symphony No. 103 | grand piano + digital orchestra

John Bereslavsky (grand piano), Teo Leonov (digital orchestra)

Haydn was deeply saddened by Mozart's death. It was the sorrow of a father losing his son.
John Bereslavsky's comment on the performance: This symphony, in my opinion, is dedicated to the passing of Mozart, to the memory of the great, kind genius. We can compare it with Kierkegaard's treaties on the knight of faith as Mozart truly is a knight with an invincible weapon in his hands, his divine music.
In the beginning of the symphony Haydn, grieving the death of his beloved friend, knocks on the doors of Kind Providence troubled by many questions: "How? How could that be? Is it not in the Kind God’s interest to have as much good music as possible on earth? Why was his life cut short so tragically? Why didn’t the Kind God prolong it?"
There is the great pain of a father mourning his son, but also a consoling revelation of Mozart as he has passed into eternity. Happy and victorious he brings such consolation to Haydn. He has experienced a terrible tragedy but at the same time unearthly joy as Mozart had revealed himself to him from the bright worlds. The transition of the kind genius turned out to be a multiplication of grace, great joy and all of Mozart's musical and spiritual gifts.
