Strong nuclear force
The strong nuclear force holds together quarks. Since both protons and neutrons are composed of quarks, they will experience the strong nuclear force. This is the force that's responsible for keeping together the protons and neutrons to form an atomic nucleus. And the stability of an atom will depend on this force.
On the subatomic scale, the strong nuclear force is the strongest of all fundamental forces... hence the name!
