Op 22 juni 1941 viel Duitsland de Sovjet-Unie binnen. Operatie Barbarossa was begonnen. De Duitse invasie van de Sovjet-Unie tijdens de Tweede Wereldoorlog was van start gegaan. Er is sindsdien veel over geschreven. Desondanks heersen er een aantal mythen rond deze grootscheepse aanval.
