Letters to judge discussing case vs Character letters for sentencing

Here are two examples of letters that can be used to help a defendant. Add any specific details you believe are necessary but use this as a guide. Remember, do not write a long winded story

I am writing to you today to express my sincere admiration for [Name], a person I have come to know over the past [length of time] years. As [Name]'s [relationship to you], I am aware of the circumstances that led to their current legal situation, and I understand and respect the jury’s verdict.
However, I would like to bring to your attention the kind, compassionate, and hardworking individual that [Name] is. Over the years, I have seen [Name] demonstrate time and time again their dedication to their family, their friends, and their community. Whether it is volunteering at a local shelter, helping a neighbor in need, or simply lending an ear to someone who needs to talk, [Name] has always been a pillar of support to those around them.
[Name] has made mistakes, and they are aware of the impact their actions have had on others. However, I firmly believe that they are capable of making amends and becoming a contributing member of society once again.
