TOWER ARCH via JEEP 4x4 inside ARCHES NATIONAL PARK - Ep 5 2023 Summer Pt 1 of 2

Join us as my brother-in-law and I depart Devils Garden Campground (DG) for a full day of Jeeping, sightseeing and hiking AWAY from the mobs of Summer tourists. Less than 5 minutes after leaving the campground we turned onto a lightly traveled dirt and gravel road that featured ominous warning signs for lesser prepared vehicles and their drivers. However, the Salt Valley road was mostly straight and uneventful. My BIL cannot walk too far. So on seeing that the easily accessible trail head for the Tower Arch hike was a LONG hike to-from the Arch, I was relieved to see a shorter alternative that required "only" a 4-wheel drive (which we happen to have 🙂). They were not kidding about that 4-wheeling trail needing something more than a simple SUV's capability! OnX trail guide would rate parts of that trail a level 6 (with one or two 7 obstacles) out of 10. Watch as Silver does her thing and then we arrive at the off-roader's parking area for Tower Arch, with only a .3 mile hike ahead of us. Experiencing Tower Arch and the fact that we were there almost alone, was surreal... almost mystical. And it was certainly something none of our fellow Main Park Visitors would have had on that day or any other.

In the next Ep 6 Part 2 installment we complete the Tower Arch - 10 Mile Road off-road loop and see the Whale's Eye Arch, maybe see some dinosaur tracks and then TRY to get NEAR The Windows area. The contrast between the on-our-own solitude of our day and what all those pavement bound tourists faced was dramatic. Look for all that and more in the next the next 2023 Summer NoGas Adventure.
