Johann Pachelbel (1653 - 1706): Ciacona in f minor

This video was made for a series of online lectures during the first lockdown for piano teachers to present the various types of the harpsichord family and their tonal possibilities, differences.

This particular instrument, a replica of Johann Mayer's sole surviving harpsichord dated 1619 and kept today in Salzburg Museum, has a unique double plucking stop, meaning that the same string will be plucked simultaneously by two quills, one close and one further away from the nut. This results in a unique, almost percussive timbre that I found very suitable for Pachelbel's Ciacona in f. The replica was made by Werner Iten in 1975.

Played by Márton Borsányi. The recording was made with cellphone.
