Allen-Bradley Studio 5000: PLC Timer Instruction Guide #plc

let's look at how the timers in Allen bradley plc, studio5000 software work.

The TON timer starts tracking the time from when the input signal is first activated. It will continue timing until the preset time has elapsed, at which point the TON timer's output signal will turn on. This output signal can then be used to trigger other actions in your control program.

The TOF timer works a bit differently. When the input signal is first activated, the TOF timer's output signal turns on immediately. Then, when the input signal is deactivated (i.e. you release the push button), the TOF timer starts tracking the time. It will continue timing until the preset time has elapsed, at which point the TOF timer's output signal will turn off.

The key difference is that the TON timer waits for the preset time before turning on its output, while the TOF timer turns on its output immediately and then waits for the preset time before turning it off again. Both can be useful for different types of control logic in your PLC program.
