CHECKING AND CHANGING A SPONGE BAR (NEEDLE RETAINING BAR)

How to locate, check remove and replace the sponge bar, or needle retaining bar in your metal bed knitting machine.

Sponge bars are not generic, you need the correct one for your brand of machine, and for the correct gauge.

Ribbing attachments also have needle retaining bars, but these are not always sponge, sometimes they are just a plastic bar.

Check your machine’s instruction book for information on the correct bar to use.
