Jewell L. Rogers - Funeral Service - March 13, 1933 - June 17, 2021
On June 17, 2021, God called another faithful servant home, Jewell Lillian Lunsford Rogers. She passed away peacefully under the care of The Hospice Solace Center, Asheville. Mrs. Rogers was a loving wife, mother, sister, aunt, grandmother, and great-grandmother.
Born on March 13, 1933, Mrs. Rogers was the daughter of the late Carl Everette Lunsford and Roxie Mae Meadows Lunsford. She was also preceded in death by her husband of 67 years, Mr. Clarence Eugene Rogers along with three brothers, Herbert, Ted, and Bobby.
A native of Madison County, she resided in Buncombe County for most of her life with the last four years in Jackson County. She was a member of Maple Ridge Baptist Church, Candler, while also attending Ridge Crest Baptist Church in Franklin. Mrs. Rogers had a passion for singing, writing, and playing gospel hymns. She was a member of a quartet that visited and blessed many churches with their love for sharing the Gospel and was also an avid reader and loved to crochet making treasured gifts for loved ones.
A homemaker for most of her life, Mrs. Rogers raised her two sons, Clarence “JR” Rogers, Jr., of Leicester, and Alan Rogers, of Sylva. She was also blessed with five grandchildren, Byron Rogers, April Carter, Chad Updegrafe, Jacob Rogers, and Autumn Rogers, along with four great grand-children. Mrs. Rogers leaves behind two brothers, Carl Lunsford, Jr., and Ralph Lunsford and wife, Frances, as well as a sister, Nellie Bell of Weaverville and several nieces and nephews.
A celebration of life will be held 2pm Sunday, June 20, 2021 in the chapel of Anders-Rice Funeral Home with the Rev. Troy Rogers officiating. The family will receive friends an hour prior to the services at the funeral home.
Following the funeral, Jewell Lillian Lunsford Rogers will be laid to rest next to her husband at Newfound Baptist Church Cemetery, Leicester.
