Cymatics Resonance 18Hz - Just Water, Light & Sound

What you are looking at is a circular array of lights, arranged above the surface of a circular dish of water.

This sits atop a transducer, which vibrates the water.

As the water moves up and down, it manipulates the reflecting light.

At particular frequencies of vibration there is harmony.

Once there is a balance with the variables involved (eg. frequency, amplitude, water depth) the water waves are moving in such a way that it creates a standing wave over the surface of the water. (See my previous post about standing waves)

Like the chladni patterns of sand vibrating on metal plates,(see my previous posts using chladni plates) there are points of interference where the waves intersect. At some points they cancel out, at others they amplify.

The pattern is the symmetry of the resonating surface waves intersecting harmoniously.

It is flashing because the surface of the water is moving up and down really fast as the waves travel over the water.

The colour is created by various means, the simplest of such is changing the colour of lights that are reflecting over the water. *The particular frequency used in this instance is infrasonic (see me last photo post) so I have added this music afterward to compliment the experience, the track Is calming soundscape by Ashaneen. Some parts in this video have been slowed down by 70% also.
