Vienna Konzerthaus Quartet: Serenade in G major, K. 525, Movement 1 - Allegro (Mozart) - 1954

The Allegro (movement 1) of Eine Kleine Nachtmusik, K. 525, performed by the Vienna Konzerthaus Quartet. Anton Kamper, 1st violin; Karl M. Titze, 2nd violin; Erich Weiss, viola; Franz Kwarda, cello; and Josef Hermann, double bass. Mozart composed this work in 1787; is written for a chamber ensemble of two violins, viola, and cello with optional double bass, which is featured in this recording. I recorded this track from an LP issued in 1954 by Westminster (WL 5315).

The Vienna Konzerthaus Quartet was formed by Vienna Philharmonic members in 1934 and gave concerts throughout Austria under the auspices of the Wiener Konzerthausgesellschaft. After 1946 they toured internationally and were one of the first quartets to establish a large LP discography in the early 1950s with important recordings of Haydn, Mozart, Beethoven, Schubert and Brahms.
