ETC 2021 - Fireside Chat Between USTA CEO Michael Dowse and newly appointed CDIO, Marisa Grimes

Session Description
USTA CEO Michael Dowse, and Marisa Grimes, the newly appointed Chief Diversity & Inclusion Officer, will have a candid discussion about the business case and vision for diversity, equity and inclusion within the USTA. This will be Marisa's public introduction to the USTA tennis community, where she will have an opportunity to share further insights about: 1) her personal and professional background, 2) why she accepted the role, 3) her leadership principles and style, 4) her high-level strategic vision for the organization and definition of what "good looks like", while sharing some of her best practices and lessons learned over the years. Michael will reflect on his experiences and aspirations for Diversity, Equity & Inclusion, explain why it must be treated as a business imperative, and reinforce his message of unity and healing for the organization.

Speakers
Marisa Grimes assumed the position of Chief Diversity & Inclusion Officer for the United States Tennis Association as of January 2021. In this role Marisa is responsible for working with all levels of the organization and the tennis ecosystem at large to elevate inclusiveness and equity, and ensure the USTA fulfills its mission of growing the game by bringing new generations of diverse players and providers to the sport.

Michael Dowse, formerly President of Wilson Sporting Goods Co., assumed the position of Chief Executive Officer and Executive Director of the United States Tennis Association as of January 2020. As CEO and Executive Director, Michael is leading the USTA’s overall vision and strategy for the growth of tennis participation with juniors and adults at all levels, while also ensuring diversity throughout the sport. He will provide direction and support and collaborate with USTA sections, districts, Community Tennis Associations, and national committees for all of the USTA’s grassroots efforts. Additionally, he will set the strategic direction and lead the USTA’s involvement in professional tennis in the U.S. and throughout the world, developing strategies to further promote the health and viability of professional tennis in the United States.
