RMS Dwarka - An Arabian Voyage - BBC World About Us

A rather poor copy, but all that is available of an episode of "World about us" as originally screened on the BBC in 1979. This particular episode concerns one of the last real working liners and indeed a real throwback from the British Empire in the shape of RMS Dwarka.
This ship was owned by the British India Steam Navigation Co. (part of the P&O group) and for her entire working life (1947-1982) remained on the same trade she was built for, running between the Indian subcontinent and various ports in the Persian Gulf.
She was something of a dinosaur and indeed an anachronism when this episode was filmed, but it was certainly worthy of recording for posterity.
The ship, the company, the crew and the trade are all long since gone - truly the last vestige of a way of life.
