CCNA Vol2 Chapter 16 Intro to Controller-Based Networking

In this video we will talk about the controller based paradigm for networking. That is - the idea that we can separate out the various "planes" of networking (control, data and management) and instead of each device running it's own control, centralize control into a CONTROLLER.

This kind of thinking started about 15 years ago but has real power in architectures like software defined networking (SDN) and products like OpenDaylight and Cisco Applications Policy Infrastructure Controller (APIC). Some keys terms for this video include the Southbound Interface (SBI), the Northbound Interface (NBI), the REST API and the controller itself. We will also spend some time on the spine-leaf architecture.
