This is part one of the series. I'll begin with a short reminder about some of the things we expect on an IPv4 network. And then it's off into the land of IPv6. From RFC 8200:

IP version 6 (IPv6) is a new version of the Internet Protocol (IP), designed as the successor to IP version 4 (IPv4) [RFC791].
