Tailfan Out Landing Test
Tailfan failure! People have asked how we recover in the unlikely event the electric tailfan fails while a Vy is hovering? (The tailfan provides pitch stability for hover and for transition.) Answer is: using wing tilt dynamically to control pitch.
This simulation shows manual control of wing tilt and collective to bring the aircraft to a safe (2.3 G), if slightly bouncy emergency landing. It's all real time too, no slo-mo.
I did pick a dramatic soundtrack, but I think it's justified anytime an emergency landing lets you reuse the aircraft. :-)
