With Professor of Rock, John describes the creation of the song and how it influenced everyone from Michael Jackson, De La Soul and Simply Red. On this installment of Revelations, we present Episode 1 of our Zoom session with Rock and Roll hall of fame John Oates, John Oates is of course one half of the biggest selling duo of the rock era Daryl Hall and John Oates. Outside of maybe Magnum PI’s Tom Selleck, John Oates had the most famous mustache in popular culture, His voice is one of the most recognized in pop radio history, soulful and sensational. He has co-written numerous number one hits including, Man-eater, Out of Touch and today’s featured song “I can’t go for that (no can do) which has been widely sampled and covered in the preceding decades. In November of 1981, Daryl Hall and John Oates had just hit number one for the third time with the pop classic “Private Eyes” they were replaced by Olivia Newton John’s “Physical” and then replaced her with their fourth Number one, the hypnotic, 80s standard I Can’t Go For That No can do, that’s where are story begins on Revelations.
