In Borat, the film opens in the fictional village of Kuzcek, Kazakhstan, where Borat Sagdiyev (Sacha Baron Cohen) proudly introduces his homeland to the camera . Standing before his run-down home, he lists his country’s neighbors: “It locate between Tajikstan, Kyrgyzstan and assholes Uzbekistan” . He then presents his sister, Natalya, with a lengthy kiss: “She is number four prostitute in all of Kazakhstan” . She holds up a trophy as proof.

He points to a shifty-looking man: “This is town rapist. Naughty, in naughty!” . Then to his neighbor: “He is pain in my assholes. I get a window from a glass, he must get a window from a glass” . His mother, he claims, is the oldest woman in the village — she is 43. His wife, Oxana, he calls a “barn” .

Finally, he shows a clip of the town’s most revered festival: “The Running of the Jew” . The segment ends with Borat declaring that the Ministry of Information has chosen him to travel to the “U.S. and A” to make a documentary — because Kazakhstan has problems: “Economic, social, and Jew” . The joke, of course, is that none of this is real. The “village” was actually a poor Romanian town called Glod, whose residents were paid just three euros each and later sued the filmmakers . But for Borat, this is home. And it’s very nice. 👍
