JUST A TRIP TO THE SHOPS- Essential kit

Going to the shops in Ukraine isn’t just a routine task anymore, it can be a matter of survival.

Russian missile and drone attacks have made even the simplest daily errands dangerous. Supermarkets, petrol stations, markets — all have been hit. The risk is real, and it doesn’t discriminate.

That’s why being prepared is not paranoia — it’s basic sense. If you know how to use a tourniquet, you should be carrying one. Lives have been saved in the minutes before an ambulance arrives, and often there is no ambulance at all. Bleeding out is preventable — if you’re ready.

Here are a few other essentials you should consider carrying:
• Tourniquet – Only if you know how to use it properly.
• Pressure dressing or bandages – Compact and lifesaving.
• Flashlight/torch – Power often goes out during strikes; a reliable torch helps in dark stairwells or shelters.
• Phone power bank – Communication is critical, and networks can be unstable.
• Basic ID and emergency contact info – In case you are found unconscious or injured.
• Whistle – If trapped under rubble, this can alert rescuers.
• Small bottle of water and snack – You could be stuck in a shelter for hours.
• Cash – ATMs and card systems can go down during blackouts.

No one wants to think like this, but we’ve learned the hard way that it’s better to be over-prepared than caught off guard. Going to the shop shouldn’t cost you your life — but if it comes to that, make sure you’ve given yourself a fighting chance.
